Classic

Personal Endeavour

Classic

Classic is a traditional pen-and-paper competition round consisting of 24 challenging problems. These comprise 12 independent problems and 6 problem pairs, which are pairs of problems where the second uses the answer from the first in some way.

No technology is allowed. You may only use a pen, ruler, compass, and scratch paper.

Junior level: 60-minutes
Senior level: 90-minutes

Crypto

Synergy or Alliance team

Crypto

Crypto focuses on effective communication and algorithmic thinking. Each team member is given a unique pack explaining 1 cipher along with 2 questions to decipher. Your team must then verbally teach each other your cipher in a designated talking area, without directly referring to your packs. Each participant should then be able to decrypt their own questions and then encrypt the answers within the 90-minute limit!

Cycle Solve

Synergy or Alliance team

Cycle Solve

Work together in a team to solve a cycle of 3 or 4 maths problems and write out your thought process, detailing how you arrived at your answer, within 60 minutes. Every problem in the cycle uses the answer of the previous problem, thus creating a loop.

Evidence of logical and creative thinking is rewarded more than just final answers being stated.

Duel

Personal Endeavour

Duel

Duel is a fun one-on-one mathematical game where you compete with other participants in quick succession. The game is different in every event, so be prepared to learn it on the day itself!

Duel usually spans 60 minutes, where you rotate opponents every 3 minutes, playing multiple games against each opponent to determine the winner. A win is worth 3 points, a draw 1 point, and a loss is 0 points.

Lightning

Synergy or Alliance team

Lightning

Run like lightning to collect and then submit a series of rapid-fire questions across 60 minutes! Your team of 3 receives the next question from an adjudicator upon answering a question correctly, or optionally skipping after 3 unsuccessful attempts. Points are awarded per question based on the number of attempts it took to solve: 1 attempt = 3 points, 2 attempts = 2 points, 3 attempts or more = 1 point, and skipping = 0 points.
