Interview

For Golden Ticket recipients

Cycle Craft

Cycle Craft

Crafting your own Cycle puzzle is the penultimate stage before qualifying for the Finals. This is the converse of Cycle Solve — craft 3 (for Junior level) or 4 (for Senior level) questions that fit the given answers, then discuss your proud creation during an online interview!

Upon receiving your Golden Ticket, you have 2 weeks to book your interview. Then, 1 week before, you will receive the specific requirements, including answer values, with which you will craft problems in your own time. This must be submitted for review no less than 24 hours before your interview. We don’t expect cycles of competition quality. We reward creative deep thinking over perfection and difficulty.

The Interview

The Interview

The online interview is an informal conversation with a WMC mentor which involves discussing your Cycle Craft, as well as a general chat about your interest in mathematics. Most mentors are WMC Finals alumni, so feel free to ask them any questions about the experience!

Be prepared to talk about the process of crafting your Cycle as well as your intended solution. We will also ask you why you are interested in the WMC Finals and any other ways in which you have pursued maths or related fields, a lot like a university interview! Most importantly, relax and be yourself. We simply want to see if you are genuinely enthusiastic about maths and if you have something to gain from being part of the WMC Finals.

Upon successful completion of your interview and acceptance into the Finals, you obtain a Qualifier Transcript within your portfolio.
